The General Arts department is the
most popular department in Apam High School, with the highest student
enrollment of about 1500 students, which represents about one-third of the
school population. The department has a teaching population of twenty-eight
full-time employees and seven service personnel and student teachers. The
elective subjects of the departments are Economics, Geography, Government,
History, Christian Religious Studies, and Social Studies. The department
requires its students to read frequently in order to increase their vocabulary
and linguistic proficiency so they may speak clearly and confidently. There are
several employment options for students taking the general arts instruction
course. These include: copywriting; management; social work; law, media, and
communication; public relations software consultant; administrative executive
assistant; and others.
PERFORMS IN WASSCE: The department
is fortunate to have dedicated, selfless teachers, and more than 98 percent of
the students who took the just completed 2022 WASSCE passed with quality grades.
CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS: The department has
student clubs and associations that are utilized to nurture students to the
next level owing to the history of developing creative students. Through peer
teaching and learning, the clubs educate students how to generate their own
original ideas. Our students’ performances at events where the clubs compete
demonstrate their creativity. The History Club Association, the Geography
Student Association, NCCE, and the Drama and Cultural Troop are among the clubs
that have received recognition from this department.
QUIZ COMPETITION PERFORMANCE: The department leads the area in quiz performance. The geography division took first place in the geography quiz that was held in 2021 by the Geography Department at the University of Education's Winneba campus. Students from the arts department have won regional championships three years in a row in the annual Independence Day anniversary quiz hosted by the Ghana Education Service. (2021–2023). In the year 2022, Great Apass was the only school in the Central Region to go to the national final, where we finished third in the GTV-sponsored What Do You Know competition this was made possible by the History Club.
